BRAVO Awards 2010-2011 season

1. Outstanding Technical Achievement in Costumes and/or Hair and/or Makeup

  • From Peel Panto Players' Sleeping Beauty for costumes: Allanah Harte and Karen Bakker
  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Pirates of Penzance for costumes: Trena Renouf
  • From Brampton Theatre School's The Rocky Horror Show for costumes: Pam Dacunha.
  • From Peel Panto Players' The Fantastic Mr. Fox for costumes and makeup: Karen Bakker

WINNER: For work that was as detailed as it was outstanding, and by as dedicated a group that has ever been seen on any Brampton stage ever, the award goes to the Peel Panto Players' Sleeping Beauty team of Allanah Harte and Karen Bakker assisted by Carole Weeds, Jaime Hernandez Lujan, and Carolyn Rose.

 

2. Outstanding Technical Achievement in Set and/or Props

  • From Peel Panto Players' Who's Under Where for set decor: Silvana DiBello.
  • From Peel Panto Players' The Fantastic Mr. Fox for props: Gary, Leslie and Kyle McCullough
  • From Brampton Theatre School's The Rocky Horror Show for set: Cleo and Dave Challis

WINNER: For a sharp attention to detail, making an unremarkable place remarkable and fun, Rose Brown and Klaas Westerhof for set design on Peel Panto Player's production of Whose Wives are They Anyway?

 
 

3. Outstanding Concert Performance - solo/small ensemble

  • Brown Ale, Brampton Folk Club
  • Festival Singers Small Ensemble Group, Brampton Festival Singers
  • Jamie Reilly, Brampton Folk Club
  • Teacher Tango, Dufferin Peel Players "Teachers Got Talent"

WINNER: For their skilful, energetic and fun performance of some of ABBA's classic hits, the award goes to the BRAMPTON FESTIVAL SINGERS' SMALL ENSEMBLE GROUP

 

4. Outstanding Technical Achievement in Lighting and/or Sound

  • From Brampton Music Theatre, Pirates of Penzance for the Lighting effect on the Moon: Antonio Decoppi
  • From Brampton Music Theatre, Beauty and the Beast for lighting and sound management: Susan Doyle
  • From Brampton Theatre School, The Rocky Horror Show for lighting and multi media design: Eric Vero
  • From Brampton Music Theatre, Rent for sound: David Brown

    WINNER: For devotion to the sound and lights and total stage management experience for this company and the many companies that have enjoyed her stupendous effort, the award goes to a woman who could run NASA: Susan Doyle for
    stage management of Brampton Music Theatre's Beauty and the Beast.

5. Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Supporting Role

  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Pirates of Penzance, Jr. in the role of "Ruth," - Nicole Melo
  • From Peel Panto Players' Sleeping Beauty in the role of "Prince Valiant" - Kristina Macur
  • From Brampton Theatre School's The Rocky Horror Show in the role of "Magenta" - Katrina Gibson
  • From Peel Panto Players' The Fantastic Mr. Fox in the role of "Rat" - Rochelle Allen
  • From St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Arts Program's Into the Woods in the role of "the Baker's Wife" -Megan Apa

    WINNER: For an altogether natural, rich and compelling performance in a very difficult role -a role that is a test to any actor that she delivered with dignity and heart - the award goes to Megan Apa, the Baker's Wife from St. Thomas Aquinas
    Regional Arts Program's Into the Woods.

 
 

6. Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Supporting Role

  • From Peel Panto Player's Who's Under Where in the role of "Bruno Frufruelli" - Mike Tadic
  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Pirates of Penzance in the role of the Modern Major General - Matthew Melo
  • From Brampton Theatre School's The Rocky Horror Show in the role of "Riff-Raff" - Wesley Payne
  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Rent in the role of "Tom Collins" -Roger Feng

WINNER: For a performance crafted with precision and heart that was riveting from his first appearance on stage, the award goes to Wesley Payne as Riff Raff in The Rocky Horror Show.

 

7. Outstanding Concert Performance - large ensemble

  • Brampton Concert Band for their concert Christmas at the Rose: with special guests The Mayfield Chamber Choir and Salvatore Gambino
  • Brampton Festival Singers for their concert“A Celebration Collection"
  • Brampton Concert Band for their concert “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: with special guest Scott Lale"

WINNER: For a first class performance of the Western classics, the award goes to THE BRAMPTON CONCERT BAND FOR THEIR CONCERT “THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY: WITH SPECIAL GUEST SCOTT LALE"

8. Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Leading Role

  • From Peel Panto Players' Sleeping Beauty in the role of "Aurora" - Kristina Macur
  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Pirates of Penzance, Jr. in the role of "Mabel" - Jessica MacNeill
  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Rent in the role of "Maureen" - Erin Hyde
  • From Peel Panto Players' Shady Business in the role of "Mandy" - Cynthia Crofoot
  • From Brampton Theatre School's The Rocky Horror Show in the role of "Janet" - Haley Tibbits

    WINNER: For a natural, well paced and focused performance that effectively demonstrated an understanding of the conventions of farce, the award goes to Cynthia Crofoot.

9. Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Leading Rol

  • From St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Arts Program's Into the Woods in the role of "the Baker" - Sean Rintoul
  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Annie in the role of "Daddy Warbucks" - Don Berns
  • From Brampton Theatre School's The Rocky Horror Show in the role of "Frank'n'Furter" - Ryan Jeffrey
  • From Brampton Theatre School's The Rocky Horror Show in the role of "Brad" - Jesse Shewfelt

    WINNER: For a compelling and absolutely delightful interpretation of Frank'n'Furter that included superb vocal nuance, the award goes to Ryan Jeffrey.

10. Outstanding Guest Performer/Group

  • Fiddler and Step Dancer: Cindy Thompson, guest of the Brampton Folk Club
  • Latin Percussionist and Guitarist: Rodrigo Chavez, guest of the Brampton Folk Club
  • Celtic Instrumentalists: Steafan Hannigan and Saskia Tomkins, guests of The Brampton Festival Singers

    WINNER: For a performance of virtuosic musicianship, informed insight and tremendous diversity, the award goes to LATIN PERCUSSIONIST AND GUITARIST RODRIGO CHAVEZ, GUEST OF THE BRAMPTON FOLK CLUB

11. Outstanding Music Direction or Choreography of a musical
  • From Brampton Music Theatre, Annie for choreography for the orphan's chorus: Hayley Sevigny, Allison Vander Weir, Alessandra DeAcetis
  • From Brampton Music Theatre, Rent for music direction: Josh Priess
  • From Brampton Theatre School, The Rocky Horror Show for choreography and Music Direction: Jackie Burns and John Pugh

    WINNER: For superb musical direction and execution of a complex and challenging score that skilfully supported the performances, the award goes to Josh Priess and the orchestra of Rent.

12. Outstanding Direction of a Play or Musical

  • From Brampton Music Theatre, Pirates of Penzance: Antonio Decoppi
  • From St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Arts Program, Into the Woods: John Thomas
  • From Brampton Theatre School's, The Rocky Horror Show: John Thomas
  • From Brampton Music Theatre, Rent: Michael MacLennan

    WINNER:For a visionary production that delighted the audience and demonstrated imagination and skill in all elements of design and performance, the award goes to John Thomas.

13. Outstanding Concert Series

  • Brampton Folk Club
  • Brampton Festival Singers
  • Brampton Concert Band

    WINNER: For a wonderfully diverse and engaging musical season of tremendous skill and musicality, the award goes to the Brampton Concert Band for their 125th anniversary season

14. Adjudicator's Award: Jason Saunders

WINNER: For terrific work in recruiting and successfully incorporating a new performer membership of almost 30%, the award goes to THE BRAMPTON FESTIVAL SINGERS

15. Adjudicator's Award: Jason Saunders

WINNER: For their outstanding musicianship, teamwork and skill at providing an unwavering pulse and rhythmic edge the award goes to THE BRAMPTON CONCERT BAND'S PERCUSSION SECTION

16. Adjudicator's Award: Theatre or Musical Theatre

  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Pirates of Penzance Jr., the Leading Ensemble
  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Annie, the Orphan Chorus
  • From Brampton Music Theatre's Beauty and the Beast, the Servants of the Castle ensemble
  • From Brampton Theatre School's, The Rocky Horror Show, the Transylvanian chorus
    • WINNER:For a group that showed outstanding singing and acting right across the
      board, going from strength to strength so as to make it impossible to choose just one to
      recognize, the award goes to the entire Pirates of Penzance Jr. Leading Ensemble.

    17. David Bloom Award: Outstanding Performance by a Juvenile

    WINNER:With a real emotional arc, filled with confidence and vulnerability, demonstrating the ability to take direction and own the stage, the award goes to Julia Pulo for her performance in Brampton Music Theatre's production of "Annie"
